Carson's Story

Carson June Muir April 20th, 2005 –February 22nd, 2024 Behind her big blue eyes was a fierce competitor and a deep faith. In life and competition, Carson lived life by her favorite Bible verse (Matthew 17:20). She believed that the seemingly impossible could be achieved through faith.

Carson loved to swim and compete, and she has a long list of records as proof of her passion for the sport. Carson began swimming competitively at 7 years old for the Birmingham Swim League where her 2018 record for the 200m back for 11-12 year olds still stands. At Spain Park High School, she was a 6-year letterman on the swim and dive team. As a senior, she captured the 6A-7A State Championship title in the 500m freestyle, breaking her own school record she set in 2021. She also set team records in 2021 in the 200m medley relay and in 2022 in the 100m fly and the 400m freestyle relay. Carson was a freshman member of the University of Wyoming’s Women’s Swim and Dive team. Upon visiting the campus during recruitment, Carson immediately knew she had found her second home. She loved everything Wyoming had to offer. In her words, “The world needs more cowgirls.” She specialized in long distance freestyle and butterfly events. In addition to swimming, the University of Wyoming provided Carson with what she enjoyed most in life, all things outdoors–backpacking, hiking, skiing and wildlife. While there, she also discovered new interests; she fully embraced line dancing and adopted Godzilla, a leopard gecko. She was majoring in animal and veterinary sciences. Carson is survived by her parents, Kristie and Mark Muir; brother, Austin Muir; her grandparents, Sandra and Gary Deavours, Lyn and Bob Frederickson, and Jackie and David Muir; and her aunts and uncles, Andy Campbell, Craig Deavours, Amy Halliwell, and Ryan Muir. The family wishes to acknowledge the tremendous role Carson’s coaches played throughout her life. They were a positive influence in helping her reach her swimming goals and shape her strong character.

All are welcome to join the family in sharing and celebrating the many blessings of Carson’s life on Saturday, March 16, at the Church of the Highlands, Grants Mill Campus, 4700 Highlands Way in Birmingham, Alabama. Visitation will begin at 1 PM with a service following at 3 PM. The service will also be livestreamed.
